Chintamani Ganesh Mandir and Ashram

Mahant Challa Subbarao of the temple says that this is the only temple where Ganesha resides with his family. Upstairs there are auspicious benefits and down below there are Riddhi-siddhis. There is also a deity of Ashtabhuja. Most importantly, this temple and the idol of Ganesha are south facing. In such a situation, the importance of this Ganesha increases much more.

Ganesha is also worshiped in the form of a gem. Told that Chintamani Ganesh ji’s name in Kashi Khand is Lambodar Vinayak and in Kedar Khand it is Chintamani. He also told that Prathamesh should be worshiped on the Chaturthi of every month. Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha is called Sankashti Chaturthi. On this day, by keeping fast from sunrise to sunset, worship the moon at night.

The Legacy of the Chintamani Ganesh Temple in Kashi
In the 1880s, Mr. B. Subba Rao Sastry, the great grandfather, arrived in Kashi. His father hailed from the prestigious Vijaynagar Dynasty, known as “Kul Purohit Vijaynagar Dynasty.” The Vijaynagar Ghat was bestowed upon the family by Kashi Naresh and the Vijaynagar king. Mr. Sastry was adopted and raised as a foster child, leading to the establishment of the “Challa” surname, which later evolved into “Mahant” of the Chintamani Ganesh Temple in Kashi.
Generational Contributions
Challa Venkata Krishna Sastry, the grandfather, served as the temple’s Mahant and was renowned as a great Vedic Astrologer. His unwavering dedication and spiritual guidance significantly impacted the society and the Brahmin community.
Today, the temple is under the leadership and guidance of Mahant Challa Venkata Subba Rao Sastry, the father, who is preparing to pass on the torch of responsibility.
